Meet Dr. Fourman
A lifelong New Yorker, Dr. Fourman is a conscientious and thorough surgeon who focuses on creating individualized, lasting solutions for patients with a wide range of spine problems.
Dr. Fourman was a part of the 8-year BA/MD program at Stony Brook University on Long Island, A Barry M. Goldwater Scholar for Engineering and a SUNY Chancellor’s Award winner, Dr. Fourman was ranked as one of the top 60 undergraduates in the United States by US News in 2007. An avid rower, Dr. Fourman was on Stony Brook’s crew team for 3 years.
Following a year spent at the University of Cambridge earning a masters in Sociology and rowing on both collegiate and masters teams, Dr. Fourman returned to Stony Brook to complete his medical degree. His research during medical school in orthopaedic and plastic surgery was invited for presentation at multiple national and international conferences. Dr. Fourman matched into orthopaedic surgery at the prestigious University of Pittsburgh Medical Center program and graduated with an MD with Distinction in both the Humanities and Research. He was also invited to present a TEDx talk at Stony Brook in 2013 to discuss his work in fluorescent diagnostic imaging.
Dr. Fourman continued his involvement in research throughout his residency, spending an extra year performing dedicated research in cartilage biology under Dr. Rocky Tuan and osteosarcoma under Dr. Kurt Weiss. During this time he was awarded the junior resident research award and top paper awards at the Musculoskeletal Tumor Society and Cervical Spine Research Society. He went on to complete fellowship training in orthopaedic oncology at Harvard Medical School and a second fellowship in spine surgery at Hospital for Special Surgery, where he was trained in scoliosis and minimally invasive surgical techniques by Drs. Han Jo Kim, Todd Albert, and Sheeraz Qureshi.
Dr. Fourman treats each patient as if they were his family, considering personal and family priorities when planning surgical approach and timing. He emphasizes the use of minimally invasive surgery techniques, which have been associated with less pain, reduced blood loss, and improved mobility after surgery.
